Delivering services from the cloud has changed the face of business computing in recent years. But load balancing hasn’t really evolved beyond locally deployed systems.
Until now that is. Cloud-based website security and performance specialist Incapsula has announced an integrated cloud system to provide in datacenter and cross-data center load balancing as well as automatic failover for disaster recovery.
"Our cloud-based load balancer is the first to balance traffic across datacenters and multiple web servers directly from the cloud, allowing our customers to take full advantage of the benefits of the cloud and scale without the need for DNS based routing, a local load balancer, or a virtual appliance," says Gur Shatz, CEO of Incapsula.
Incapsula uses a single application delivery platform to deliver three major service components. Global load balancing is achieved through a Layer-7 aware system rather than traditional DNS-based routing. It provided geographically optimized application delivery direct from the cloud.
Local in-datacenter load balancing uses a number of load distribution schemes including least pending HTTP requests, least open connectors and IP hashing. Global failover allows organizations to divert traffic to an alternative datacenter in the event of a problem.
The addition of load balancing capability augments Incapsula's application security, DDoS mitigation and content delivery capabilities to provide customers with a comprehensive cloud-based application delivery service.
